Following the removal of the original play equipment in 2007 the Council and the community in Low Bentham looked to replace the equipment with something more suitable.
The first Bentham Calendar was produced in aid of the Playing Field, Car boot sales were held and a sponsored bike ride was done to raise funds for the refurbishment. In 2008 Low Bentham Primary School was closed, and the Council set about trying to buy the Playing Field as a more suitable site for a children’s play area. Thanks to NYCC, who set a reasonable purchase price and worked hard to secure a suitable access, and to Clifford Hall Developments who allowed access to the field over their land off Hillside Road, this playing field was finally purchased in 2016. The funds originally raised were used to fence the area among other things associated with the purchase..
